Applications were arriving. Qualification was the missing step.
Western Utility Telecom designs and manufactures steel structures for utility and telecommunications infrastructure. Its Salem operation needed people with practical shop skills, including welders and drafters.
In the client check-in, Sherilyn described the earlier approach: reach out to everyone who applied and often hire whoever showed up. Sorting for reliability and the ability to pass basic skills and weld tests had been difficult. Earlier welder hires sometimes left within 90 days.
Put a dedicated recruiter in front of the interview
The partnership focused on roles that were working well in the recruiting platform and on having Yellowstone Local qualify candidates before they came in. That gave Western Utility a person responsible for reaching out, screening and moving suitable applicants forward.
Job sponsorship supported the pipeline from both sides: Yellowstone Local applied a small amount of sponsorship, and Western Utility also sponsored through its own Indeed account. The results reflect that combined recruiting effort.

June 18, 2025 client check-in
A stronger hiring cohort and a decision to continue
At the June 18 review, the team reported 15 hires in approximately 4.5 months, with a reported cost of about $745 per hire. Sherilyn also described qualified drafter candidates and stronger welder candidates reaching the shop.
The client said the service had become valuable once the team understood the platform and had the qualification step in place. Western Utility chose to extend the partnership for another six months.
